1 out of 5 stars Crashes constantly   April 7, 2008

Excel quit on me 10 times in 15 minutes the other day. Word crashes as well, but not as often. I haven't had a chance to test PowerPoint yet. I am less than impressed with this new version.

1 out of 5 stars Giant step backwards for writers   April 7, 2008

The Word portion of this software suite is a huge step backwards.
I used to be able to use the pull down menu to instantly summon the thesaurus and/or the dictionary while writing.
MS farmed out the dictionary function to Encarta. Encarta's dictionary has a basic fatal error; it won't look up your word for you. For instance, I wanted to check "watch dog". Was it a hyphenated word, a single word, two words? Encarta doesn't know. It gave me "waste" instead. The Encarta dictionary consistently does that; when you ask for a word, it gives one prior to what you seek.
The thesaurus isn't much better. It is short of entries, and skimpy on suggestions.
I've bought a new hardback dictionary and thesaurus. I'm contemplating going back to my old iBook for writing, and leaving my new iMac for Internet use only. And it's not the iMac's fault. It's the wretchedness of Word.
Actual rating for this product: zero stars and a big Bronx cheer.

2 out of 5 stars Runs like a (very old) dog...   April 2, 2008

I'm not very demanding of my productivity apps, but having to wait upward to 1 minute for word/excel to open on a brand new MacPro 2008 with a RAID system and 10GB of memory?!?!? And that's not even mentioning a simple page zoom makes me wait 3-6 seconds before doing anything. As a single ownership business owner, this totally redefines the concept of a "productivity application". Stick to the older version until Microsoft seriously patches this disaster, it'll be much more worth it!!!

1 out of 5 stars Piling On   March 31, 2008

I hate to pile on but hope that someone from Microsoft is listening. It says a lot about the company that it would take four years and then release something that has been so poorly QA'd. In over 25 years of computing, this is the worst value package I have bought. You should be ashamed.

1 out of 5 stars WORTHLESS PIECE OF JUNK   March 24, 2008

This is a terrible product. Imagine working on WORD and all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, the beach ball shows-up and never stops. You have to do a "force quit" to get rid of it. It happens all the time. This is known as "hang." DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! I have given up on it.
