5 out of 5 stars One awsome ipod !   December 12, 2008

Once again Amazon gave me nothing but the best service. Thank you Amazon!
As for the ipod all I can say is WOW !!! I wish it was for me but it's not. ipod has come a long way. If you are looking for a itouch go with a first gen. The differances are minor and the savings add up.

5 out of 5 stars Best buy ever!   December 12, 2008
Honestly I cant believe I didn't get one sooner. This seriously has made my life easier. Not only organizing me, but putting everything into one. Now I got to upgrade to an IPhone to be ALL in one!
The only difference between this and the Iphone is one has the ability to talk on the phone with "phone features." and the ITouch does not have any of that...

But if you do not need a cellphone then the Itouch is the way to go.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing piece of gadgetry   December 12, 2008
One word to describe this: Amazing.

As you may have noticed, this is one very slick looking gadget in the line of i-can-do-it-all type of pocket wizards. This device made my 40 min commute to work by bus so much fun that I almost missed where I was supposed to get off... twice... I live in bay area and the transbay buses are equipped with free wifi. Being able to check e-mail, facebook, movies, amazon (you name it) without paying for data plans is quite cool. Equally cool is to be able to listen to my favorite tunes while doing that. As a bonus, the free games available for it are all addictive. So far, I am really impressed. However it still falls short of 5 stars, because it is not perfect. Here are my minor moans:

1. Startup is too long for a player of this caliber. Especially given that it has a non-mechanical drive. My 5-year old iRiver imp-200 which is based on a laptop hard drive boots twice as fast as this.

2. The battery life is good, but not as much as I expected. I use it ~2 hours everyday. Mostly listening to music and playing games on it. I found that I have to charge it every third day. That means I am getting about 7-8 hours of juice from it. It is okay but not that great and certainly not enough for that flight from SFO to London..

3. So you are telling me that you built this masterpiece but somehow forgot to put a resume function to it?? wow.. I was really taken aback for this and I really think it is the new firmware issue.. The songs now have an option you can turn on so that itouch remembers where it left off. However, this option is only valid when the player is active or when you put it to sleep mode.. If you turn it off, all bets are also off.. Next time it is on, it just goes to the last album list you were looking at.. The funny thing is, I believe prior to 2.0, ipod touch was able to do this.. so as I said, this might be fixed in a future firmware release..

Thats it. All in all, I am really glad I made the purchase.

1 out of 5 stars Amazon is ripping you off   December 12, 2008

This product was $60 cheaper just two days ago, and now one of Amazon's "preferred retailers" is selling it for more than Amazon is charging for a 2nd gen model? What a rip-off! You're better off buying a refurb model from the Apple Store. It's a much better deal and you're not paying one of these thieves $1000 to get an iPod.

3 out of 5 stars Great toy, but so-so pda   December 8, 2008

I expected better PDA functionality, so returned it. I'm coming from a Palm Treo650 (PC for backup only), looking to upgrade. Will probably order a Palm Treo Pro. Maybe in the future Apple will add needed features...

Pros:
- glitzy mp3/video covers, high fun factor!
- WiFi
- Touchscreen
- many good free apps available

Cons:
- no bluetooth
- no FM radio
- no voice recorder
- calendar limited in notifications, no color-coding, not as robust as Palm
- no task/todo list (add-on apps available)
- difficult to type accurately (I type a lot)
- difficult data conversion from Palm calendar/contacts/tasks (needs .csv or other generic format)
- synchs only to Outlook (on PC)
- MobileMe synchs only pc-to-ipod (no option for vice-versa or newest entry)
- iTunes (I like old-fashioned jazz etc, so Rhapsody works better for me)
