Awesome machine, pay attention to the details July 19, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I love this MacPro, I now have no more beachballs for anything. However, this computer is configured WITHOUT Airport or Bluetooth - and if you need those items it isn't an easy install, while it can be done by the consumer you have to be comfortable with tiny screws and trying to fit things into tight spaces. I skipped the Airport connection and used the LAN Ethernet port on my Airport Extreme Base Station, but if you need it think about the hassles before buying here.
All that said, this was the best price and with Amazon Prime I got it overnight for only $4 more!
Attention PC lovers : the earth is not flat June 29, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Big time! I have been held by the bondage of my PC and have now experienced a new world. No more "program not responding". No more hard shut downs. No more spy ware. The machine just works that is all there is to it. Don't think about it any more, you should buy this machine now. So just hit "add to cart" and experience computing the way it was meant to be. Go ahead ...you can do it.
By the way, this machine tears through video and anything you want to throw at, and laughs when you ask if it has had enough.
Mac Pro - .Great way to enter the Mac world in style! June 25, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have had my Mac Pro (purchased from Amazon) for a few weeks now and coming from 15+ years using Windows and non-Mac PCs, I am delighted in making the transition to a Mac. I purchased this primarily for photo editing and wanted some serious horse power for the work I'm doing. This "quad-core" PC is FAST! Some of the photo work I do requires some high activity CPU processing and this PC does it effortlessly using TWO dual core Xenon processors. I've added 4Gb of memory and I'm delighted in how fast this machine is now. Regarding the Mac architecture and simplicity of doing things (I keep saying to myself "Why can't Windows do it this way"). Adding two more (RAID) SATA hard drives took literally less then a minute, open the outer case, attach them to a slide-in drawer, slide it back into position close the outer cover and done! No cables to connect as the HDs connect directly to the Mac ports. The transition to Mac didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. A week or two and you will know your way around Mac OS X and how to do the same things you did in windows easier and faster. I also installed Parallel's Desktop software (the best price is through Amazon) to allow me to run Windows XP and some software I have on the Mac. It works perfectly. No hangs, no issues and both platforms can run at the same time unlike Bootcamp from Apple which requires booting to one platform or the other, but, not both at the same time. Another plug for Amazon since I shop there a lot and truly feel they are on top of customer service and have the best prices around. Also, for those who shop there often, I recommend getting Amazon PRIME. Two day free shipping on most everything (the Mac Pro arrived two days after ordering) and often you can order overnight (one day shipping) for $1.99 if it is at the end of the week. If you want it "yesterday", go PRIME. Bottom line is that I have not regretted this pricey purchase at all. If you require serious processing power for photo and video work (or gaming), the Mac Pro is at the top of the Mac hierarchy for sure and will have you wondering why you didn't do this before (other then the fact that now Macs are all INTEL and far faster then any Power PC processor Mac!!).
A quiet powerhouse June 2, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
My previous Mac was a Dual 2.7. A very fine machine with occasional loud fan noise and occasional power supply chirping. With my new Macpro 2.6 quad I've never heard a fan come on and no chirping. Having four hard drive bays is a plus because I edit video which requires plenty of space. Overall for most of the applications I use I percieve no increase in speed of the Dual 2.7 duo but for video applications there is an improvement. I wish I could have afforded the 8 proc. model but for now I'm very happy with my purchase.
very very quiet May 4, 2007 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have had many Macs down the years, most recently a PowerMac G5, an iMac G5, and an original Mac Mini. This machine is much much quieter than any of them, maybe quieter than any Mac I have ever owned (well, the 128k Mac was as quiet when the floppy wasn't active: no fan).
