5 out of 5 stars Awesome Machine   September 8, 2007

This is probably the most expensive computer I ever spent my hard earned money on...It was worth every cent of it.

This is my first pure Mac desktop. I am loving every second I spend with this computer. As soon as I got the machine, I immediately added 2 more gigs of memory and flashed a PC 1900xt to mac 1900xt so that it'll boot in MacPro which works fine.

I strongly recommend an extra gig or 2 more when you get this system. I bought mine from OCW, great company and their memories are top quality. 1 gig is not enough and does not show justice to this machine, the OSX loves more memory and the more memory you add, the more responsive and instant it becomes.

OS Leopard will make this machine scream since the kernel itself has been optimized for Intel processor and multithreading operations. The scheduler has been redesigned and optimized, so even if you think OS X Tiger is fast on MacPro, you are going to be in awe when running Leopard on it.

This machine while it is so fast and powerful, it is surprisely very quiet. I almost pissed my pants because as soon as I turned on the machine, i did not hear anything. I thought the computer was DOA but imagine my surprise when I turned to my monitor and the OS X desktop was ready for me to start playing with it.

5 out of 5 stars Good machine...Good service from Amazon   September 5, 2007

I don't need to add to the positive reviews of this computer. It's a great machine. However the first one I received had a faulty logic board which drove me crazy for a couple of weeks. Apple was useless and did not help me with the problem at all. Amazon was wonderful and sent me a replacement overnight with no shipping charges. Thank you Amazon custumer service.

4 out of 5 stars Great machine and amazingly trouble-free   September 2, 2007

I'm not the type to fall in love with a computer but I can honestly say, if I had to design a computer myself there is hardly anything I would change.

Why four stars? Because, for $2500 you should get at least a year of free support and a non-Missing Manual.

5 out of 5 stars Buy it from the Apple Store if you want more   July 24, 2007

I got this from the online Apple store and it has been a great buy. It may seem a little too pricey for the average computer user but actually is worth every dime. It has great software and is very reliable. It has never froze on me or given me the black screen of death, which is good and which means i never lose any crucial data.

I recommend buying this from the apple online store if you want to make it suit you better. You can upgrade it up to 3 terabytes of hard drive, 16 gigabytes of ram, Intel Quad instead of Xeon and other options. These top notch options aren't necessary but it would be a good idea to get at least 2 gigs of ram and a 500 gigabyte hard drive.

5 out of 5 stars Best Desktop. Ever.   July 20, 2007

I have an old PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25ghz MDD and needed to upgrade. I am glad I did. While the old G4 is still in use (and still running great), this machine eats anything I throw at it. I run a small design and advertising agency and use the standard set of programs (PS, AI, FinalCut Studio etc.) and I have nary run into any bottle-necks. FCS works excellent - with major render times cut down to hardly anything.

My recommendations for anyone considering a MacPro is: buy at least 2 extra gigs of RAM. I think that's a must for any professional (3-4 gigs as a minimum). Also, if you need Airport and Bluetooth - consider a Build-To-Order Mac from Apple as these components are difficult to add yourself. It's not impossible, I did it, but it's not as easy as adding RAM - so definitely think about it.

Other than that - no regrets. Excellent desktop!
