4 out of 5 stars I have had these for at least 4 years...   July 24, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

After at least four years of having these speakers, I give them high praise.

I travel frequently. For durability and battery usage, I took away a star.

Eventually and recently the plastic/metal casing fell apart at the folding arm hinges. In spite of this, the speakers still play and I still use them.

The sound is decent for what it is...Actually, it's better than expected. It travels well ...if carefully handled. Although not widely noted, I found that it charges the iPhone as well.

5 out of 5 stars I love this thing   March 28, 2008
I've had one of these for over a year now. It is, in a word, awesome.

Not much too add to other, more complete reviews, except that:

1) It's tough. I take it whenever I travel.
2) The iPhone works with it as well, though a small complain screen pops up. Other charging stands that I've tried don't.

4 out of 5 stars A good system for the price!   February 21, 2008
I got these speakers back in December of 2004 w/ my first iPod. I still have them, and they work as well as they did day 1.
I have compared this speaker set side-by-side to a Bose SoundDock. Here are the differences:

- Bose has a better volume range. The AL tends to get distorted at higher volumes (if I had to break the volume up into a 1-10 selection, I'd say distortion is noticed around an 8). The Bose stays clear and crisp throughout its range.
- The Bose does have a 'richer' sound while playing some music, which does make the music seem like its better. However, a substitute for the AL is to turn the EQ on your iPod to 'small speakers'...this assists in clarity and overall sound quality, matching the Bose.

The AL is a great speaker for the price. At 1/4 the price of the Bose, I'd go for this any day, as 75% of the $400 you pay for the Bose is just for the name. Bose does make a good product, true. But, don't fall for the marketing ploys they typically adopt.

1 out of 5 stars Quit after less than a month   February 12, 2008
Seems like QC is a lost art these days. Although we bought the AL iPod system for its compact design and sound quality, our pleasure was short lived. The thing just stopped working after just a few plays. The light comes on, but no sound comes out. AVOID! AVOID! There's no excuse for new things not working.

4 out of 5 stars Could use a smaller form factor   January 18, 2008
It's actually rather lightweight which makes me think that there's some "dead space" inside that could be removed to make this a bit more sleek. The folding design is good, though, and I've traveled all over the world with it, so no complaints there. The sound quality is good for the size of the speakers, but nothing outstanding. There are undoubtedly better-sounding products out there, but not in this price range.
